What is National Margarita Day?

National Margarita Day takes place every year on February 22nd, and people come together to celebrate the existence of this iconic cocktail. The day is celebrated by spending time with friends and family while trying new and exciting flavors and classic ones. It’s safe to say that the margarita is the official cocktail for having a good time!
History of the Margarita
Although it is not entirely confirmed, the famous cocktail is said to have been founded in 1938 by Carlos “Danny” Herrera. As the story goes, Herrera created the margarita for a famous American Broadway dancer in his Baja California restaurant. The reason for including the key ingredient of tequila was because the Broadway dancer was allergic to most alcohols, except tequila. And just like that, the margarita was born!
The Ingredients
For those who don’t know, the ingredients that comprise a margarita are relatively straightforward! A classic margarita's primary and essential ingredients include tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a flavored liqueur of your choice. Other ingredients are usually added, like agave, a simple syrup used to sweeten the cocktail, and additional limes or wedges dropped inside to add more lime flavor. When it comes to the rim of the glass, most people add salt, but others prefer sugar, which makes the flavor pop after the first sip!
